Documents offers most of its functionality for free. However, there are superpowers in the Documents subscription plans for you to do even more with your files - right now, we have several options available:
- Documents Starter: use the free version of the app and enjoy multiple features and tools
- Documents Plus: advanced PDF features let you make beautiful annotations, edit PDFs, sign them, and more
- Documents Pro: get access to the Smart Insights feature and use this AI-powered tool to extract insights from your files and summarize them for you
Documents also has a separate set of online tools for the web, Documents.io: apart from offering a Starter version with a number of free actions, it also has Plus and Pro subscription plans, just like the iOS app. These subscriptions are cross-platform, so purchasing them means you can use the tools across your iOS devices and on the web.
Upgrade Documents
Unless you have already upgraded, you'll be offered the opportunity to start with the Documents Plus subscription every time you attempt to use advanced PDF features (i.e., the functionality that comes as part of the subscription). You'll be upgraded once you review the subscription terms and confirm the action in Apple's pop-up message.
The payment will be charged to your iTunes account. The subscription renews automatically until you cancel it. Learn more about our Terms of Service and Privacy Notice.
The subscription is required for the professional PDF features, VPN, Edit Metadata, Smart Eraser, Transcribe Video to Text, Extract Audio, and Extract Insights. You do not need a subscription to manage your files, watch movies, read books, listen to music, download files, connect to a PC, transfer files, etc. All these features are available to you at no cost, with no limitations.
