File Reminders in Documents make it simple to keep track of important files. You can set reminders for any file and get notified when you need to act. No more last-minute scrambles or lost files. Documents will make sure you’re always prepared and takes the pressure off your memory. Whether you're managing work, personal tasks, or collaborative projects, here’s how you can use file reminders effectively in Documents:
- Set a reminder to review, sign, or send a document before a deadline
- Get notified to finalize slides before a meeting or presentation
- Remind yourself to approve edits or submit files for review
- Set deadlines for reports, contracts, or project milestones
- Use reminders to prepare materials or follow up after discussions
- Stay on track with bills, appointments, or important errands
- Use reminders for your theater, cinema, or plane tickets
How it works
You can set reminders for any file you store in the app. Just make sure to:
- Allow push notifications in Apple System Settings to be able to get reminders on your device
- Use reminders for locally stored files only (they can’t be applied to the files you have in the cloud)
There are two entry points for this tool: Actions Menu and Extensions.
- Launch the app.
- Open the file you need and tap the three dots icon to open the Actions menu.
- Choose the Set Reminder option.

Alternatively, you can use the feature via Extension:
- Open the file in another app.
- Tap the Share icon.
- Choose to save the file to Documents.
- Select Set Reminder from the options you’re offered.

Once you open the Set Reminder menu, follow these simple steps:
- Choose the Date and Time when you want to be notified about the file.
- Tap Create.

You can edit or delete your reminder after creation.
Once it’s time to review the file you’ve set your reminder on, you will receive a push notification on your device.
