In this reading, we will discuss the Set Aside feature and how it comes in handy, as well as compare it to pinning and snoozing emails.
Set aside
Setting emails aside moves them from your Inbox to the neat bubble at the bottom right, where the emails are kept in easy access until ready to reference. This helps both reach Inbox Zero and keep the info you need to act on later at hand, for example, it could be an email you can’t answer because of waiting for additional details from your colleague.
To access emails you set aside, tap the bubble at the bottom right.
To set an email aside, open the needed email and tap ... > Set Aside.
To move an email back to Inbox, open the set-aside section (tap the bubble at the bottom of your Inbox), then tap Move Back to Inbox.
Set aside vs Pin
Pinning a message moves it to the Pins section on the sidebar OR to the dedicated section of your Inbox, depending on your choice. A pinned message is indicated by asymbol. Setting emails aside moves them from your Inbox to the bubble at the bottom right. While both features help you get easy access to important messages, you decide what works best for your email routines. At Spark, we see it this way:
- Setting aside - for emails you need to act on later but don’t want them to occupy your inbox.
- Pinning- for emails you need quick and easy access to, but do not necessarily need to act on. For example, train tickets, hotel bookings, or important numbers.
Set aside vs Snooze
When it’s not the right time for an email to call your attention, Spark helps you not to get unintentionally distracted. You can either set an email aside to declutter your Inbox without marking an email as Done or snooze it to make it appear in your Inbox anew later.
Snoozing an email removes it out of your sight completely, and makes it re-appear as “new” in your inbox at a specific time. This feature is helpful when:
- you can’t answer an important email immediately
- want to get a reminder about it later
- you know the specific or at least approximate time when you want this email to reappear in your inbox.
Snooze is also an instrument to reach Inbox Zero, but it allows you to remove the email out of your sight and mind, unlike Set Aside, when emails are grouped in a bubble for easy access.
You set aside emails when you don’t know when you’ll be able to process emails and don’t want to think of times when you can deal with the email.
