Syncing your calendar between your Mac and iOS devices can be a great way to keep your schedule up-to-date on all your devices. In this article, we will explain how you can sync your calendars on both devices and with connected services.
At the moment, there is no function available that will automatically transfer your settings and sync account(s) from one device to another. Please see the steps outlined below to set up your account(s) and sync your Calendars between your devices. Please note to ensure successful sync, the same account(s) should be connected to the app on both devices.
Sync across devices
Open Calendars on all the devices and go to the Settings section:
- Open the Calendars app.
- Click Calendars at the top left.
- Click Preferences.
- Open the Calendars app.
- Tap the hamburger button at the top left.
- Enter Settings.
Make sure that all the apps have the same accounts connected and the same calendar set in the Default Calendar section.
Afterward, tap Local Calendars on your devices to check that this section looks the same, too.
Sync with Google Calendar
If you’re experiencing issues with syncing your Google Calendar in the Calendars app, re-logging into your account should help. Follow the steps below to update your account settings.
- Open the Calendars app.
- Click Calendars in the top left of the screen.
- Go to Preferences.
- Select Accounts > Google > Sign Out.
- Sign back in to your Google account.
Important: Before signing out, make sure to copy any events that haven’t synced to the Google Calendar web page.
- Open the Calendars app.
- Tap the three-lines icon in the top left of the screen (skip this step on iPad).
- Go to Settings.
- Select Accounts > Google > Sign Out.
- Sign back in to your Google account.
Important: Before signing out, make sure to copy any events that haven’t synced to the Google Calendar web page.
Sync with Local (Apple) Calendar
When Calendars is set up to sync through Local calendars, the native iOS Calendar is used as a mediator. Thus, if you've experienced a sync issue, launch the iOS Calendar app and check if it is up-to-date.
If so, please follow the steps below to improve sync stability:
- Go to the Calendar app on your Mac.
- Choose Calendar > Settings, then click Accounts.
- Select the account, click the Refresh Calendars pop-up menu.
- Select ‘Push’.
Go to your iOS Settings > Calendar > Accounts > Fetch New Data > turn on the Push toggle for the iCloud Calendar, so that it pushes events to Calendars faster. Fetch should also be set to 'Automatically'.
Sync with Outlook/Exchange Calendar
If your Outlook (Exchange) calendar isn’t syncing as expected in the Calendars app, try re-logging into your account with the steps below. This should help refresh the connection and get things back on track.
- Open the Calendars app.
- Click Calendars in the top left corner.
- Go to Preferences.
- Select Accounts > Outlook (Exchange) > Sign Out.
- Sign back in to your Outlook (Exchange) account.
- Before signing out, double-check that any unsynced events are saved to the Outlook Calendar web page.
- Open the Calendars app.
- Tap the three-lines icon in the top left of the screen (you can skip this step on iPad).
- Go to Settings.
- Select Accounts > Outlook (Exchange) > Sign Out.
- Sign back in to your Outlook (Exchange) account.
- Before signing out, make sure to copy any events that haven’t synced to the Outlook Calendar web page to avoid any loss.
Connect Outlook/Exchange via Local (Apple) Calendar
If re-logging doesn’t resolve the issue, you can try syncing your Outlook (Exchange) account through your local (Apple) Calendar. Here’s how:
- Add your Outlook (Exchange) account to the Apple Calendars app on your device.
- Open Calendars by Readdle.
- Press ⌘, or go to the top menu bar, click Calendars, then select Preferences > Local Calendars.
- Enable the Display Local Calendars toggle and select the accounts you’d like to display.
- Add your Outlook (Exchange) account to the local Calendars app on your device.
- Open Calendars by Readdle.
- Go to Settings > Accounts > Local Calendars > turn on Display Local Calendars > toggle on your iCloud account.
Sync with iCloud
If you're experiencing issues with iCloud sync, please refer to this article - it contains detailed steps for the troubleshooting.
These are the main points you can check:
- The Internet connection on your device is stable. With poor connection, Calendars might not be able to add your account.
- VPN is not enabled on your device. If you use a VPN, we can’t guarantee Calendars will work properly. The quality of the performance via VPN solely relies on the servers of the VPN network. For this reason, we recommend you turn the VPN off.
- There aren't issues with iCloud accounts on Apple's side. You can check this info on Apple's System Status page.
If you still experience issues with your events not syncing, please contact us, and we will be happy to help you personally.
